There are essentially 3 different types of hearing loss:<\/p>\n

Conductive hearing loss<\/strong>
\nOccurs when there is a problem conducting sound waves anywhere along the outer ear, eardrum or middle ear. Common causes for this kind of hearing loss include: Excessive wax or other foreign bodies in the ear canal, middle ear infection, perforation of the eardrum or malformations of the outer ear. In most cases these disorders may be treated medically for alleviation.<\/p>\n

Sensorineural hearing loss<\/strong>
\nOccurs when there is a problem in the inner ear, namely, the cochlea or the auditory nerve. Sensorineural hearing losses are, by far, the most common types of hearing loss, such as age-related hearing loss, noise-induced hearing loss etc. This type of hearing loss is permanent and is treated with the use of assistive listening devices, such as a hearing aid.<\/p>\n

Mixed hearing loss<\/strong>
\nOccurs when there is a combination of conductive and sensorineural hearing loss<\/p>\n

A simple diagnostic hearing test allows your Audiologist to assess your outer, middle and inner ear and provide you with a diagnosis and treatment plan.<\/p>\n

A hearing test is done by asking you to listen to a series of sounds and words through headphones<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n
