Are you suffering from dizziness, vertigo, or balance problems? You may not need a neurologist — you may need a vestibular assessment.
Understanding Vestibular Disorders
The vestibular system, located in the inner ear, is responsible for your sense of balance and spatial orientation. When it is not working correctly, you may experience dizziness, vertigo, nausea, or difficulty walking — symptoms that can be frightening and disabling.
A vestibular assessment is a specialised series of tests that evaluate how well your inner ear balance system is functioning. It can identify the specific cause of your symptoms accurately and efficiently, so that the right treatment can begin as soon as possible.
Many patients spend months visiting GPs, neurologists, and general audiologists without a clear answer. At TM Reddy Audiology, vestibular diagnostics is our specialty — led by a PhD audiologist who was formerly Head of the Vestibular Clinic at the University of Pretoria.
Conditions We Treat
These are some of the most common conditions we diagnose and manage. Many are highly treatable once correctly identified.
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo — The most common cause of vertigo. Brief but intense dizziness triggered by head movements. Highly treatable with specific repositioning manoeuvres, often in a single session.
A disorder of the inner ear causing episodes of vertigo, fluctuating hearing loss, tinnitus, and a feeling of fullness in the ear. Can be effectively managed with the correct diagnosis and treatment plan.
Inflammation of the vestibular nerve, usually following a viral infection, causing sudden severe vertigo. Vestibular rehabilitation is highly effective in speeding recovery.
Infection or inflammation of the inner ear affecting both balance and hearing. Requires accurate diagnosis to distinguish from other vestibular conditions and guide appropriate treatment.
Reduced function in both inner ears causing imbalance, difficulty walking in the dark, and oscillopsia. Identified through specific vestibular testing and managed with rehabilitation.
Dizziness caused by problems in the brain rather than the inner ear. Our comprehensive assessment helps distinguish peripheral from central causes, ensuring appropriate referral when needed.
Diagnostic Technology
We use the same diagnostic technology found in leading international vestibular clinics.
